This 4 week class intensive incorporates both the technical study and physical tools an actor needs to combine the heart, mind and body of a realistic character based in humanity rather than projection. With an emphasis on creating character from physical movement, this class adopts a more traditional European approach to character development-using text to delve straight into the physical world of the character and the play. This work will stimulate the actors’ awareness of their body and develop a more intimate relationship with their physical activity on stage by connecting them with themselves, the space and their fellow actors. Using the methods of Jaques Lecoq as well as sense memory exercises and improvisation directly applied to scene work we will apply them to scenes in order to continue to connect the body with text and emotion.

This 6 week class intensive presents an Actor’s Lab focused on exploring specific acting technique while rehearsing and developing a character. The class will be divided into two parts. The first will be the exploration of specific character development from a play and the second will be a series of exercises/improvisations and cold reads that address actor technique such as bunching, framing, turns, transitions, laying on and laying off, tonality and spacial relationships. This class focuses on fine tuning technique and developing deeper levels of awareness and skill into the intial stages of character development.  This class has the possibility of becoming an ongoing class.

"A good director or a good actor or a good writer--for film or theatre--has to have the capacity to love fully and messily;

to really give of himself.

A great deal of patience is required, and a rigorous maintenance of your mind and your body. You have to be alert. You have to be present."  -Elia Kazan
